I read the following recently on the ACHPER Qld website as an acknowledgement of an award recipient. It describes the great attitude to change that is essential to thriving in schools.
“One of my PE mentors once told me that when you stand still in education you are really moving backwards – as everyone else just keeps moving forward without you,” said State Review Panel Chair of Physical Education for QSA, and ACHPER QLD Award winner, Ross Stewart when asked what he wanted to share with the industry, urged teachers to keep looking to the future while engaging in ongoing reflection of practice in order to undertake continual improvement.
“Change in practice should be the norm for teachers, not the necessary evil, and should have you always moving in a positive direction,” Ross said.
“I encourage all teachers to embrace change and when confronted with new theories, practices, syllabi or methods, look for ways to incorporate them for the benefit of your students. This is particularly important as we begin to embark on the Australian Curriculum.”
With wise words like these it’s no wonder his efforts were recognized with an ACHPER QLD Professional Development Award.
